Support the tools, stories, programs, and research infrastructure that keep the library growing.

Memberships

Memberships provide lawful educational access and community benefits while helping fund subscriptions, archives, workshops, transcription, translation, youth media, plant reviews, research explainers, and program development.

Membership principles

  • Membership is not ownership, investment equity, insurance, clinical care, or guaranteed access to cannabis.
  • Benefits must be specific, achievable, and reviewed for tax, privacy, and payment implications.
  • Restricted cultural or family material remains governed by consent, not merely by payment.
  • WooCommerce handles billing; Ultimate Member handles identity and community profiles; access changes follow payment and approval rules.

What dues can fund

Examples include genealogy-site access, archive subscriptions, record retrieval, elder and veteran interviews, youth media kits, transcription, translation, captioning, cultural reviewer honoraria, laboratory or university literature access, website hosting, workshops, and community pilot design.

Connect with the program

Use the guided intake below so your request reaches the right team. Do not submit medical records, government identity documents, confidential research protocols, or other highly sensitive information through a public website form.

Required fields. Share only the minimum information needed for human review. Do not include private rosters, home addresses, personal schedules/locations, security details or protected records.

Do not submit passwords, payment-card data, government ID images, medical records, private home addresses, person-specific locations/schedules, security/access details, or confidential research materials.

Routing is deterministic-first. Raw submission text is not sent to external AI providers.

Transparent support with visible outcomes

Support is strongest when people can see the specific work their dues or contributions make possible. The platform should publish approved budget categories, completed outputs, remaining needs, corrections, and annual impact summaries without exposing private participants or exaggerating results.

Examples include document retrieval, archive subscriptions, elder and veteran honoraria, transcription, translation, captioning, youth production stipends, plant-profile reviews, workshop access, community site assessments, and protected digital preservation. Benefits and restrictions must be stated before checkout.

Proposed benefits by purpose

  • Public supporters: impact updates, member briefings, selected downloads, and early notice of events.
  • Learning members: workshop discounts, resource libraries, office hours, and cohort opportunities.
  • Heritage supporters: public archive releases, behind-the-scenes preservation updates, and invitations to approved story events—not automatic access to restricted family material.
  • Grower and maker members: application pathways, education, stewardship standards, and networking after review.
  • Professional and institutional partners: briefings, research-literacy resources, collaboration intake, and negotiated services.

Billing and access controls

Recurring billing should use the installed WooCommerce Subscriptions system only after its database health is restored and test renewals, failed-payment handling, cancellation, receipts, taxes, refunds, and account access are verified on staging. Community profiles remain in Ultimate Member. Store billing remains in WooCommerce. A payment does not override editorial, cultural, safety, vendor, participant, or research approval.

What to expect when you return

New material should appear through a visible publishing rhythm: reviewed feature releases, upcoming events and workshops, new or corrected profiles, project field notes, member briefings, and annual impact summaries. Each update should show its source or reviewer, publication date, and next review date when the subject is sensitive or changeable.

Visitors can subscribe or become members for approved updates, but the platform should not use urgency, fear, medical promises, or cultural access as pressure to pay.

Frequently asked questions

Are payments tax-deductible?

Only when the legal recipient and transaction qualify and the campaign says so. Membership purchases and store orders are not automatically donations.

Do members receive restricted cultural records?

No. Access decisions remain governed by consent and cultural review.

How will support be reported?

Campaigns and membership reports should identify approved uses, completed outputs, remaining needs, and material changes without exposing private participants.
